12 Mar How to make grounding?
So, the electrical wiring of a country house is almost completed. Can turn on electrical appliances? Theoretically – yes. But it’s best to work a little more and make reliable protection for your electrical appliances, and the inhabitants of the new house from electric shock. In other words, we will talk about how to make grounding.
To what extent is it necessary, and is it necessary at all?? There are many opinions on this. Someone argues that the manufacture of grounding is a waste of money and extra work, but someone, citing strong evidence, insists on installing grounding.
Let’s try to figure it out. Grounding is actually obliged to protect a person from the action of an electric current in cases where an electrical appliance, as electricians say, “breaks into the case”. Moreover, such an electric device can be not only washing, for example, a machine, or water heating elements, that is, devices in contact with high humidity, but also any other electrical devices that can transfer the voltage to their own case during operation.
It happens to us? Yes, as much as you like! And if, in addition to everything, such a device is connected to the water supply network, the consequences can be extremely difficult for a person.
And what do we lose by deciding to install a grounding system after all?? Nothing! First of all, for this work we do not need any special knowledge in electrical engineering, and there is no need to have an electrical engineering education for this either. Labor costs here are minimal, work for one or two days. The smallest amount of money and materials will also be required. So it’s decided – we proceed to the manufacture of the grounding system.
First of all, let’s take a plan of a new house, and mark on it the points for installing electrodes. There can be 3-4 of them, and they can be located anywhere around the perimeter of the house. The main thing is that the electrodes should not be located closer than one and a half meters from each other.
At least two -meter segments of a water pipe, or a steel corner – any, in a word, metal structure, can be used as electrodes. The only important condition: it is necessary that the cross-sectional area of \u200b\u200bthis design be at least 150 square millimeters.
Then we will need to prepare the connecting conductors for our electrodes. As a conductor, you need to use a metal structure, for example, a steel strip or a metal corner. These conductors should connect all the electrodes, so it will not be difficult to calculate their length.
And then we get straight to work. First, we dig holes with a shovel where the electrodes will be driven in, then we connect these holes using the same shovel with longitudinal grooves for connecting conductors. After that, we insert the electrodes into the prepared pits and hammer them into the ground as deep as possible.
Then we connect the conductors to the electrodes. There is only one condition, but the condition is very strict: no bolts with nuts, it is possible to connect the electrode to the conductor only by welding!
Next, we bring the structure connected around the perimeter into the house, you can use steel wire of large cross section for this purpose, but the same metal structure as used as a conductor is best suited. And already in the house we bolt a copper wire to this strip.
The cross section of such a wire must be no less than the cross section of the phase conductor of the house. Thus, our grounding structure is bolted to the housing of the switchboard of the house, in the event that, of course, if the shield is made of metal. Or, in all other cases, in a special terminal of the switchboard “grounding”.
Agree, it’s not that hard work. So is it worth relying on chance?
