Gas versus electricity: different models of water heaters

A water heater can be an important part of your daily life if you don’t have hot water in your home, or if there is an intermittent supply of hot water. Many factors of civilized household life depend on the presence of hot water – on the adoption of a shower to cleaning. If you think about the replacement of an old water heater or buy the first water heater in your life, then you probably touched on the issue of choice between electricity and gas. In a number of apartment buildings, the gas option is not even considered due to the lack of central gas supply, but in all country houses, as well as in those city dwellings where there is access to gas, you have to choose between gas and electricity.

In the store, a number of different models of water heaters, including the Bosch gas column or the Termyx, will appear in front of your gaze. And first of all, you have to decide on the choice between gas and electricity.  What’s better? There is no unequivocal answer to this question, because each model has its own advantages and disadvantages. We will tell you about them, and your task will be to make your own decision regarding what is important for you on this list and what is not so important. Based on this, you can make your decision.

Gas water heater: for and against

Let’s start with gas water heaters. They use the strength of natural gas, the burner ignites and heats the water. The advantage of such boilers is that natural gas is cheap fuel, unlike electricity. Gas boilers can save up to 30% of operational costs in comparison with electrical. In addition, they heat the water faster than electric boilers.

However, to use a gas water heater, you need gas. In apartments where there is a central gas supply, this option is most acceptable, and in suburban houses for such an option you will also need to install a special private gas supply system, which can be represented by different options. If you live outside the city and do not have access to gas, then this is not a reason to refuse a gas water heater. The initial investment in home gasification can be a decent investment, but with gas you can power not only the boiler, but also heating systems, stoves and a number of other home appliances, which in total will save you a large amount of money.

The gas boiler also requires connection to the ventilation system.

Electric water heater: pros and cons

Electric water heaters typically cost less per product category and installation category. But in terms of operation, such water heaters will require more money, because electricity is not cheap. The advantage of an electric water heater can be the size and service life, in addition, it is worth noting that in comparison with gas devices, electric ones cannot leak gas.

In terms of power, an electric water heater is not as efficient as a gas one.

Which water heater is right for you?

The answer to this question depends on the source of energy in your home and the long term. At first glance, gas devices seem to be the best option due to the low fuel price and efficiency. But fast heating and an economical fuel source are not the only factors of choice. Electric models can quickly be at the top of the list for families worried about gas leaks. In addition, electric boilers, which are used in the city only once a year during water cuts, can be quite a sufficient option that does not require large investments.
