How to choose the floor for the nursery

When we make repairs in an apartment, we want each room to become as comfortable, cozy and functional as possible. A separate line in the repair of the entire apartment is a children’s room.

It should be beautiful and safe, the materials should be environmentally friendly, and the room should be easy to clean. The floor is subjected to a special load in the children’s room – small legs run on it from morning to evening, bicycles, rollers, scooters and cars ride on it, chairs move on it, pictures are molded on it from plasticine and pictures are drawn with felt-tip pens, and everything is also on it. time something spills and crumbles. Under such conditions, choosing the floor in the children’s room becomes a very difficult task. We will consider what flooring options exist for a children’s room.

Wood. Type-setting parquet or parquet board is suitable for a children’s room in several ways: firstly, this material is environmentally friendly, secondly, it retains heat well, and thirdly, there is a large selection of colors. On such a floor you can not put a rug – it itself is self -sufficient and beautiful. However, there are also disadvantages – the wooden floor is afraid of mechanical damage, you should not often spill something on it, and it certainly will not make friends with the marker and plasticine.

Laminate. This flooring is one of the most suitable for a child’s room. If you opt for a wear-resistant laminate, you can not be afraid for its appearance – it will withstand both bicycle wheels and other loads. It is better to opt for strength classes 31 or 32 – this laminate is used for office or shops, and has a much greater strength potential than home coatings, which is very important in our case. Laminate is less afraid of moisture than parquet and is easier to care for, but it also has disadvantages – by itself it is not so warm and it will be much louder to hear the knock from steps or falling toys.

Carpet covering. This type of flooring has several important advantages for children’s. It is soft and cozy, it is comfortable to sit on it and not so painful to fall. In addition, there is a huge selection of colors – a fabulous meadow or a busy road junction on the floor in the nursery is very easy to arrange with the help of carpet. But there are also disadvantages: such a coating accumulates dust and it needs to be cleaned frequently and thoroughly, preferably with a wet method. In addition, stains from many liquids cannot be completely removed from the carpet, which means that you will have to follow certain rules with food and drink in the nursery.

Linoleum. In recent years, this type of flooring has practically ceased to be used, but it has a number of significant advantages: it is very easy to maintain, it is not afraid of almost any stains and dirt, it is soft and has a huge selection of colors, including wood effect. In addition, it has a low cost, so you will have to worry about its safety much less. A large disadvantage of linoleum for a long time was non -ecological. However, today there is such a type of it as marmoleum – it consists of 97% natural materials.

cork floor. A cork floor has a lot of advantages for a child’s room: it is warm, soft, has excellent sound insulation, it is environmentally friendly, and small dents disappear on it by themselves. But there are also disadvantages: the cork floor is afraid of moisture, and high humidity is very important for children’s rooms. There are types of cork floors that are not afraid of moisture – but there cork tiles are glued together, that is, the coating due to glue becomes less environmentally friendly.

As you can see, the choice of flooring for the nursery is very large, each has its pros and cons. When choosing, you should focus on both these indicators and your own children – their age, degree of activity, rules of behavior in the nursery.
