Submersible and surface pumps: what is the difference and what are they used for

For a person who is not endowed with special knowledge in the industry where industrial pumps or domestic pumps are made, choosing such devices is not a very easy task. In this article, we carried out a certain classification of pumps, so that it would be easier for you to understand and understand this topic and, as a result, choose the pump that suits you.

We note first that there are so-called submersible and surface pumps. These are the two most important classification concepts. Submersible, as the name suggests, immersed in water. They are used in wells, wells, for drainage, as well as for getting rid of feces. Surface pumps operate above the surface of the water. They are used in gardens, cottages. Pumping stations also fit this concept.  And below about all this in more detail.

Submersible pumps.

The operation of the submersible pump is carried out when it is completely or partially immersed in water.  That is why it is worth remembering that there should not be any bare wiring and electricity contacts with the water surface. That’s why the submersible pump device is different from the surface. The submersible pump is securely insulated, made of stainless steel and other durable polymers that do not allow moisture to pass through.

Submersible pumps are:

one. For wells.

The pump for the well is also called deep. Such pumps are used for pumping water from wells, that is, from great depths. Key feature – high pressure.

Such pumps are limited in diameter, therefore, in order for the efficiency to be at the level, the equipment is quite technical, but therefore expensive.

2. For wells.

Well pumps are quite similar to deep well pumps, but they are more efficient and cost less due to the larger diameter. They are used not only in wells, but also in natural reservoirs or reservoirs. The peculiarity of these pumps in strong traction, due to which it is highly not recommended to bring it to the bottom of the well, in order to avoid the possibility of spoiling the quality of the water.

3. For drainage

Drainage pumps pump water out of basements. They drain the pools. In general, all you need to quickly get rid of the water is to the drainage pumps. By the way, using them for drinking water is not quite for its intended purpose, although many Russian summer residents do this.  The drainage pump has a feature of low pressure, and they only function no deeper than 7 meters. Although the performance of such pumps is very good.

four. For faeces.

Fecal pumps pump out feces, which, in fact, is clear from the name. Therefore, the peculiarity of such pumps in operation in conditions of a viscous liquid consistency.

Surface pumps.

So, surface pumps do not immerse anywhere. The body of the structure is always on the surface, away from water or other liquid consistency. Although, there are pumps that are mounted on the surface of the water. This option is sometimes very helpful, for example, if water is pumped out of a reservoir that is heavily overgrown with algae.

It is worth remembering that surface pumps do not suck water from a depth of more than ten meters. If you need to work deeper, you will have to work hard and resort to additional devices, such as ejectors.   In addition, the greater the depth, the harder the apparatus works, the efficiency deteriorates.  The deeper you plan to work, the more expensive the pump will be.

The universal garden pump is a fairly lightweight and cheap design. They are used for overflowing drinking water and liquids for domestic purposes. Ensuring uninterrupted water supply is carried out using such pumps by connecting them to a hydraulic accumulator and control automation.
